US Details Multiple Costa Rican Human Rights Violations in Prisons and Judicial System
The US Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor issued a scathing report on Costa Rica's judicial system for the 2013 year. The US bureau noted that Costa Rica was violating human rights in the areas of harsh prison conditions, harsh treatment of inmates, and delays in the judicial process. The report also says: 'Overcrowding, inadequate sanitation, difficulties obtaining medical care, and violence among prisoners remained serious problems in some prison facilities. Security and administrative staffing was insufficient to care for the needs of prisoners, including personal safety‘ says the report'.
